Clyde Stubblefield Celebration of Life and Tribute Events are Planned
Scholarship Fund in Stubblefield’s Name Moving Forward
Two events are being planned in remembrance of one of Madison’s most loved and most respected musicians, Clyde Stubblefield.
The first will take place Friday, February 24th at the Madison Concourse Grand Ballroom. This Celebration of Life event will take place from 5-8 pm. It will be hosted by Michael Feldman and there will be memorabilia and memories.
The second event will take place at the High Noon Saloon on Monday, February 27th, a date that was originally scheduled as one of the Clyde Stubblefield All-Star Band Funky Monday events. The event will now be a tribute featuring all the James Brown hits of which Stubblefield was a part as well as selections from Stubblefield’s four solo recordings. The band will keep the name and plan on continuing the Funky Monday series. This tribute to Clyde will also be a benefit for Jody Hannon to help her with Clyde’s funeral and medical expenses. There is also a Go Fund Me account to raise money for the family.

In related news, the Coalition for the Recognition of Clyde Stubblefield – which hosted a gala recognition event in October 2015 – has joined forces with the Madison Area Music Association to make the MAMA Clyde Stubblefield Scholarship Fund a reality. The Coalition has been fundraising since 2015 and with the leverage that MAMA brings will be raising another $20,000 to endow the fund. One of the fundraising events in 2015 was held at the Barrymore Theater and was recorded and filmed. The DVD is just about completed and the CD is finished. Copies will be available at the High Noon Saloon event and orders will be taken for the DVDs.
More news on this to come as details of the scholarship are still being designed. The scholarship will make awards to area graduates going on to higher education in music. Stay tuned.
